First off, let me say that I am very excited to be frequently blogging again! This trip will bring many more stories, updates, funny moments, and adventures to blog about. I’m a little rusty, because I haven’t blogged in a while… but I think I will start at the beginning of today:
7am I woke up. I wasn’t very happy about this. It was the last night in my bed, for a few months, and my body decides to wake me up at 7 in the morning!?? Once I was awake, I needed to repack and I couldn’t go back to sleep because I knew there were too many things still for me to do. Ugh.
The plan was for me to have a leisurely morning, I had a friend coming over for lunch and we were all just going to enjoy each others company till I needed to go to the airport at 3pm. WELL, I broke a glass the other day while unloading the dishwasher… and then stepped on it (because that’s the smart thing to do!). I thought all the glass was out, but there was still one spot on my foot that began to hurt so bad I couldn’t put pressure on it… how was I supposed to walk through several airports tonight?
After my aunt helped me dig a hole in my foot, we realized that if something was still in there it was too deep for us to just pick out.
12pm My mom and I go to the urgent care clinic.
Needless to say, I canceled my plans and we spent the next hour and a half in urgent care. The nurse numbed my foot because she was digging into it pretty deep…. only to decide that it wasn’t glass that was bothering it, my foot was just infected! Just to be safe, she took an x-ray (talking about if there is glass in their, it’s in their really deep and we’ll need to schedule surgery). I’m now on antibiotics for the infection, and she didn’t see anything in the x-ray. Which was good, because I was ready to cry! The last thing I needed was surgery for a piece of glass the size of a crumb!
At 2pm we headed to the airport. And that is where I am now! They are playing really horrible elevator music… but I am very excited about this trip!
I am getting a lot of questions about what I will be doing and where I am going! I am going to Australia, I will be several places in Aussie but I’ll keep you updated then!
I am volunteering on the Steve Irwin, to get the ship ready for campaign! Right now the plan is that I will be on the next Antarctic Anti-Whaling campaign. Anything can change, but that is the plan right now, and I am very excited about it! Thank you to everyone for the support!
I love my friends and family and I’ll miss them all so much! But this is an important campaign, and one I am honored to be a part of. Whales and dolphins are non-human persons, and they have a right to life.
